Hi, my name is Steve Lopez and I have been teaching at MRMS for 11 years, going on 11, however, I have been a teacher for 27 years. I have taught Math, Physical Education & Health here at MRMS. I will be teaching 8th grade PE & Health this 2018-2019 year. I will be coaching the 8th grade Tackle Football team, the 7th&8th grade A&B Basketball team, and the 7th & 8th grade Track&Field team. I have been married for 27 years to my beautiful wife Heidi. We have 2 kids that are 24 (Mason) and 22 (Molly). I love my family very much!
If you are wondering about all of the "Lopes Up" & "Go Lopes" pictures on my web site, my nickname growing up was Lopes. My daughter attended Grand Canyon University and their mascot is the Antelopes. They call themselves the 'Lopes'. I was beyond excited for my daughter to be attending a school with a cool name, and the name I was called growing up. So, #GoLopes, Lopes Up, Lopes Life is my way of saying from the heart...Lets get pumped and reach our fullest potential together!
I love to: play basketball, play chess, travel to other countries, read- mostly inspirational books, coach, go on missions trips and love family. I love USC football, Azusa Pacific University Basketball and Anaheim Ducks Hockey.
This past summer, I had a very eventful time doing what I love to do...travel, be with family, lead a basketball camp and MC at sports camps! As a family, we traveled to California for a wedding and be at one of our favorite places in the world: Hume Lake, in the Sequoia National Park. Then I was part of an incredible Sports Camp at my church that saw over 800 kids go crazy and have a good time. I had my own basketball camp at MRMS, which was truly awesome! And, I traveled to Colombia, to lead games and build partnerships with the Colombian people. What an amazing summer!
I am anticipating the new year with excitement for change and making new relationships with the students. Our team will be dedicated to a fantastic way of leading...relationships first, period. We want to see young lives transform into healthy, respectful and self sufficient teenagers. I am thankful for a place like Mountain Ridge that allows us to be creative and use that creativity to challenge and push students to reach their fullest potential. This is going to be a great year!
Thank you for your support! Please let me know if you have any questions, thoughts or comments. I would love to hear from you. Lopes up!
